At Al Jannah Academy, we believe that a strong building requires a solid foundation. In our Islamic Studies curriculum, nothing is more fundamental than the Five Pillars of Islam.
These pillars are the framework of a Muslim's life, weaving faith into our daily actions and connecting us deeply with our Creator. Whether you are a student just starting your journey or a parent reviewing with your child, understanding these pillars is the first step towards spiritual growth.
1. Shahada(Faith)
The declaration of faith: "La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammadur rasul Allah" (There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah). This is the core belief that brings us into the fold of Islam. At the Academy, we teach not just the pronunciation, but the profound meaning behind these words.
2. Salah (Prayer)
The five daily prayers are our direct line of communication with Allah. On Saturdays, our students practice Wudu and perform Dhuhr prayer in congregation, learning the importance of punctuality, focus (Khushu), and unity.
3. Zakat (Charity)
Islam teaches us compassion. Zakat is the obligation to give a specific portion of our wealth to those in need. Through initiatives like our Al Naseer Foundation project, we show our students the practical side of Zakat and Sadaqah—helping the wider community and purifying our own wealth.
4. Sawm (Fasting)
Fasting during the month of Ramadan teaches self-discipline, gratitude, and empathy for the hungry. It is a spiritual detox that refreshes our iman.
5. Hajj (Pilgrimage)
The pilgrimage to Makkah, required once in a lifetime for those who are able. It represents the ultimate unity of the Ummah, standing equal before Allah.
Watch: A Visual Guide
We have selected this beautiful summary video to help visualize the importance of these pillars.
Join us every Saturday
We explore these topics in depth during our Islamic Studies sessions (11:00 AM – 11:50 AM). We encourage parents to discuss these pillars at home to reinforce what the children are learning at the Academy.
May Allah give us the strength to uphold these pillars and raise a generation of righteous Muslims.
